About France Study Abroad Program Program
Experience French culture like never before with Campus Education's France study abroad program, designed for high school students aged 15–18. You'll attend a local French lycée (high school) while living with a carefully selected host family, creating an authentic immersion in French language, customs, and daily life. Unlike typical tourism, you'll eat, drink, and breathe French culture—from dinner table conversations with your host family to classroom discussions in French, to exploring the artistic, architectural, and culinary traditions that have shaped Western civilization.
You can choose from flexible program lengths: 4–10 weeks, 3 months, a 5-month semester, or a full 10-month academic year, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your schedule and goals. The French school year runs from early September to June, divided into three terms with two-week breaks roughly every seven weeks. A typical school day starts around 8 am and can run until 6 pm, with no classes on Wednesday afternoons. The French educational system is renowned for its rigor and emphasis on critical thinking—you'll be challenged academically while gaining skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Campus Education also offers a unique White Christmas program—a 6-week winter immersion departing in November/December. Imagine celebrating the French holidays with your host family in the stunning French Alps, trying traditional treats like Galette des Rois and la Chandeleur crêpes, and experiencing authentic French winter traditions. This special program combines the joy of cultural celebration with quality schooling in an elite local institution.
Host family life is central to your experience. French families place great importance on mealtime, respect for elders, and cherished traditions. Most families have both parents working, and they welcome student contributions to household responsibilities—giving you genuine family integration rather than outsider status. You'll develop real relationships, learn how French families actually live, and gain perspective on values and customs that differ from your own.
The program is supported by Campus Education's comprehensive services, including insurance options, scholarship opportunities, and structured registration and payment processes. Whether you're seeking to strengthen your French language skills, explore European culture, develop independence and adaptability, or simply experience life as a French teenager, this program delivers transformative personal growth alongside academic enrichment.
